The 11 winners of the ASB election, including junior Katelyn Chung, who won ASB president, and Katelyn’s sister, Sophomore Makenna Chung, who won ASB vice president, were announced on the ASB instagram on April 3.
The winners shared feelings of relief about this due to the immense stress that campaigning brings.
“I feel a little relieved [about winning] because obviously the campaigning is very intense for everyone,” Katelyn Chung said.
The winners of the ASB election shared how they feel about that, with feelings of pleasure and modesty.
“I feel good, amazing. I didn’t really mind if I didn’t win it because, in a way, it would still be my last year, and I didn’t want to make it a big deal,” said junior Felix Acevedo, who won Senior Class President.
The people who were running in the ASB election had several campaign tactics, such as giving out candy and making posters.
“I used a lot of flyers,” said Makenna Chung. “I also did some [promotion] on social media.”
Cindy Monjaraz, the incoming ASB Secretary, along with the other winners, was very appreciative of those who helped them achieve her goals.
“I am super grateful for everybody that helped me, and that voted for me and helped me…campaign and make posters and stuff like that,” Monjaraz said.
In order to make good to her supporters, Gemma Alvarez-Resely, who won Link Crew Director, has big plans for what she plans to do, especially regarding freshmen.
“As Link Crew Director, I am going to make activities for the freshmen when they come to freshman orientation and stuff like that,” Alvarez-Resley said.
Katelyn Chung also plans to make changes to some things in ASB that she wishes could be different, including making freshmen feel more welcomed into MECA’s campus.
“I really want ASB to be very welcoming. I want everyone to kind of be ok with interacting with people on higher levels because, right now, I feel like it’s kind of a divide between the upperclassmen and lowerclassmen because we kind of don’t mingle with each other. I remember when I was a freshman, I was super scared to talk to seniors, but I want next year to kind of be less like that,” Katelyn Chung said.
Congratulations to all the students who won this year’s ASB election! All your effort has certainly paid off!
