The beloved animated kids show “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is finally getting a movie revival, with longtime fans reviving their childhood memories and dusting off their old memorabilia in preparation for the release date—that was, until the completed film in its entirety was leaked.

What happened

In a supposed “accident”, user ImStillDissin on X was found to be the main culprit of the leak. While some details remain unknown, searches have confirmed the man to be a 26-year-old from Singapore, on April 12, with police reports later released on the 16.

According to the user himself, after receiving an email from a Paramount employee, he posted it to an online forum X, whereupon millions of people pirated, shared, and saved the finished movie.

As of late, he has been apprehended and is now faced with lawsuits of upwards of $50,000 in fines and a jail sentence with a maximum of seven years for their actions, according to The Straits Times.

But what is “Avatar: The Last Airbender”?

Airing from 2005-2008, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” follows a young boy named Aang with the ability to control air, fire, earth, and water. As the avatar, he is the only person capable of using all four elements. However, for the last hundred years, he was trapped within a sphere of ice, leaving the entire world without their savior until a pair of siblings named Sokka and Katara—from a nearby waterbender tribe—freed him from his slumber, sending all three of them on a journey to teach Aang how to control his powers in order to stop the firelord taking over the world.

What is the NEW Movie about?

Given “Avatar: The Last Airbender’s” unquestionable achievement in animation, several recreations and successors have risen in its wake. 

This movie is no different as it follows the adventures of Aang and his crew many years in the future with an all-new journey to learn the secrets of an ancient power capable of bringing airbenders back.

Following this major disruption, thousands of content creators began to post teasers, edits, and jokes about the movie, making light of the situation for the week it was investigated. By now, much of the initial stir has calmed down after having identified the main culprit so soon.
