In last week’s weekly newsletter released by school admin, it was announced that starting next school year MECA would implement an all new uniform policy. The policy is intended to create cohesion, as well as promoting an academic and professional environment. The new uniform policy will be effective starting after spring break.

According to the announcement, it will be mandatory for students to wear the following: A solid purple colored polo shirt with no symbols or imaging, as well as shorts, slacks, or knee-high skirts that must be either navy or khaki-colored. Additionally, all hoodies and sweaters must be navy blue, dark red, or green and must be free of any prominent logos or images. Students will be prohibited from wearing sweats, basketball shorts, or any pants with symbols or designs. Finally, caps and hats of any kind are prohibited from being worn inside the classroom.
It has been speculated that the policy was set to be implemented due to excessive complaints from staff that students were too comfortable in class and therefore unfocused. In an effort to relieve staff concerns the policy was announced so that students may once again be focused and aware during their classes.
Admin clarified that if the new uniform rollout is successful, there may be opportunities for students to be allowed to be dressed as they please, with the exception of a handful of dress code regulations. The policy is still under development and revisions may still be implemented as the policy is implemented.
