ASB recently decided that MECA students will have to wait to be recognized as the Renaissance Rally is postponed from December to January. The Renaissance Rally is a program where a school recognizes a student’s accomplishments.
“We recognize athletes,… attendance,… behavior, stellar stars in specific subjects, grade point averages, other accomplishments, academic, scholastic, and schoolwide accomplishments,” the ASB advisor, Gabe Nichols, said. “[This is] just a way for our school to celebrate our successes.”
The new program is similar to a former award ceremony called the “Fall/Spring Award Ceremony,” where students were recognized for their academic achievement. That ceremony ended after the first semester of the 2022-23 school year.
The reason for the postponement is due to hindsight by ASB. Before this semester, they chose a day at the start of the year. However, upon further discussion, they decided to postpone it to January.
“That way we can include first semester grades, attendance, tardies, and sports,” said Nichols.
As the Renaissance Rally includes achievements from first semester grades, Nichols believes that students shouldn’t have to worry too much about what’s going to happen for the event.
“Students don’t need to know too much about it beforehand, because we’ll just force everyone who’s at school to go to it,” Nichols said.
