As basketball season comes to a close, the 2026 MECA volleyball season begins. This school year, MECA’s soccer and basketball teams have gone undefeated. Can the upcoming volleyball team continue the streak?
After tryouts concluded the week before spring break, Gabriel Nichols—the coach of the team—was very pleased with the turnout of tryouts, saying he believes this season will be “unforgettable.”
“It’s going to be a lot of fun. We have three games scheduled and are working on four. The weather is going to turn out well, so it’s going to be great. We get to travel, and the volleyball season is very competitive. So I’m really looking forward to it,” Nichols said.
It will be an away game against a school TBD (to be determined). This year’s roster will include Jayden G, Jayden Young, Gemma AR, Ryan H, Ethan B, Ketelyn C, William L, Kyle C, Rena W, Albert M, Wincent S, Kiara M, James P, and Cassia F representing the MECA volleyball team.
“I’m really excited to play with my team and see how we’re going to do at our games. It’s interesting how our season started so close to the end of the school year, but I’m still grateful to have gotten in, even if I might not have much time to play, and I also think everyone on the team plays really well together,” said Cassia Fung, a freshman on the team.
The season opener will take place this Friday, April 17. There will be two more games on May 1 and May 15. Nichols said there may be another game on May 29, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
“Last year, and the years prior, the [most] popular sport on campus was probably basketball. And those people have all graduated. So volleyball is our popular sport this year. And so I’m just excited for the campus to see those guys getting to go against different teams,” said Nichols.
The volleyball season that is going to begin has been moving in a positive direction. Let us extend our best wishes to the MECA volleyball team, who proudly represent our school, and wish them smooth sailing on their volleyball journey ahead.
