Esports is not only competitive online gaming, but it is also a way to bring the online community together as a whole. Just like football or basketball, Esports is loved by many, and people all over the world watch it. Games that everyone loves to watch are big names like Mario Kart, Valorant, Smash Bros, and even Chess. These are some of the few games that are watched by millions across the world. But when it comes to a more local Esports scene, there’s nothing much happening. Lucky, here at Mount SAC Early College Academy (MECA), we are no strangers to Esports and have teams ourselves.
Currently at MECA, we have teams like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Valorant, and Marvel Rivals. All of these games are usually played by five people and are very team-reliant. Because of this, the teams like to build a strong bond together to play better and have more fun. Kyle Cao, a sophomore who has played all two years on the Valorant team, said, “When I first started, I felt awkward not knowing anyone in the team. But as I spent more time with the team, I got more out of my comfort zone and started talking and opening up to them more.”
Not only do the teams have strong bonds, but they work pretty well together, and it’s all thanks to their coach, Alex Palacios, MECA’s security guard. “The Esports room is always welcoming. Anytime someone wants to join or try something new, my players are always so nice and welcoming. The mood is always upbeat and very joyful in a way you know. We never turn down anyone who wants to have fun,” said Palacios.
With what there was to say about the team out of the way, what about the upcoming Esports season? Of course, for any new or returning players to the teams, the info about game dates and times is below as posted.

For any further questions about the season or how to join Esports, make sure to ask Palacios for the details. Goodluck timberwolves! Remember to crush that competition and have fun.
