Spring break is finally here, and MECA students can’t wait. Students around campus have plans such as traveling, spending time with family and friends, and sleeping in. After a long season of school and dealing with the hardships it brings, students are excited for their long-awaited break.
Many students are planning to travel out of the country. Myeisha Bautista, a sophomore, shared, “I’m traveling to Japan. I’m gonna eat a lot of food and go shopping for a lot of clothes and probably skincare and makeup.” When asked what she was most excited for, she replied, “Probably the clothes.”
Japan has many different types of fashion, from silk kimonos to Harajuku-inspired street style clothes, which focus on unconventional color combinations. Cities like Kyoto or Tokyo are lined with department stores that tourists can enjoy. Japan is also renowned for its makeup, which can be used to create a natural, “glass skin” look or a dramatic gyaru style. On social media, Japan has gone viral for its food places, such as the sushi conveyor belt at Shibuya and 2d Cafe at Shin-Okubo.

Another sophomore, Lola Faniel, said, “I’m going on a cruise around the Caribbean. I’m really excited to go to the beaches cause they’re really pretty and just to relax because the last week of school has been stressful.”
Spring is the perfect time to visit the Caribbean, as it’s right before the start of the rainy season in June. On the way there, Faniel will get to experience beautiful views, all-you-can-eat buffets, and fine dining, fun family activities such as bingo, water parks, comedy shows, and more.

Other students are staying within the U.S. Natalia Jarquin, a sophomore, said, “My plans for the weekend are to go to Texas, but also for Easter to hang out with my family. That’s [also] the reason why I’m going out to Texas too, is for my Tias’ birthday.”
For Jarquin, she’s enjoying the break by spending time with her family, who live far from California, and celebrating her aunt’s 60th birthday with her cousins and relatives.
Eden Wang, a junior, is also celebrating a loved one’s birthday. She shared, “I’m going to Florida. I’m gonna go see a bunch of my mom’s family and just hang out with them. We’re gonna go to a few dinners cause my mom’s birthday is coming up.”
During break, she’s able to spend time with her mother’s side of her family, and travel to their home like fun sleepovers. She dreads the Florida weather and an encounter with an alligator, but with much excitement, she can’t wait for the break.
For some students, spring break is a time of new beginnings. “I’m going to be moving. I’m pretty excited because we were supposed to move three years ago, but some stuff happened, so we’re gonna move into that house now,” said Ariah Gonzalez, a senior.
Moving can be tedious, but Gonzalez is taking in every moment break has to offer to make it the most memorable and relaxing experience.
Some students feel that spring break should be a week longer. “We deserve a two-week spring break. I’m going to be in the Philippines after Japan, so that means I’m going to be missing an entire week,” said Bautista. Events such as these can cause students to miss class, but Bautista believes that by extending the break, students can further enjoy their time off and come back more refreshed and ready to learn.
If you’re burnt out from school, hang in there. Spring break is finally here!
