The Community Builder’s Award Ceremony is a prestigious event held to honor those who actively participate in their community. Whether it be having hundreds of hours in service projects or working as an Editor-In-Chief (EIC) for your school’s journalism class, only those who really put their time into helping their community can win an award from this event.
At MECA, two seniors, Autumn Pagan and Emily Lassiter, worked hard as leaders in their community and made it a better place. Their hard work got them recognized by West Covina.
Autumn Pagan is the current EIC of MECA’s Journalism program. She goes through articles with a fine-tooth comb before publishing them to make sure they are the best they can be. That was not her only leadership position, as she has worked in Girl Scouts for a total of 13 years, along with volunteering for a bible study group during the summer. She also recently won the Gate’s Scholarship.
Emily Laster has also helped the community many times. Not only is she a volunteer at Queen of the Valley Hospital, but she also participates in the Community Food Distribution Effort. She is also the current EIC of MECA’s Yearbook program, creating and designing themes for our school’s yearbook.
Emily and Autumn have made MECA very proud, each getting their own awards, putting MECA’s name on the board once again.
