Kaeani Ortiz is a freshman at Mt. SAC Early College Academy (MECA), coming from Hollencrest Middle School in West Covina. She came to MECA at her parents’ request since they live close to the school. Ortiz still enjoys MECA; she likes how they offer college classes on campus and the friends she has made here. She hopes to make her years here memorable, achieve her goals, and enjoy high school throughout.

Ortiz has her dreams; she hopes to go into the medical field and become a NICU nurse. She’s set on wanting to go into this career because of her caring and compassionate nature.

“I want to help [the babies] not be sick anymore and give them back to their family so they can live a healthy life,” Ortiz explained.

With her studies in MECA, Ortiz is currently not taking any college classes as she is an active member of the yearbook, but she hopes for her sophomore year to make it as a member of ASB, and start taking some college classes, “For next year I put psychology [as one of my choices]”, said Ortiz.

During her school hours, she still finds ways to enjoy her time. Her favorite class is Spanish, as she enjoys the work that they are able to do during it, “The work that we do is a lot more fun than what we do in other classes, because we really don’t get that much work, and he really helps us,” said Ortiz. She also likes to walk around and enjoy time with her friends, “I like to sit with my friends, by the science buildings, and we walk around too.” Even with her studies, Ortiz is still enjoying MECA to its fullest potential.

Ortiz also wants to be able to get her Associate’s Degree for Transfer while here at MECA, “I want to be able to graduate with my AA, I want to be one of those people who are able to do that.”

If she isn’t busy preparing for her future goals, she’s doing it on the field. She is quite an active person in sports. Ortiz has been playing soccer for seven years and is really a great player. She started on AYSO Region 626 on the Dolphins and has been continuing to play on FC Man United DPL.

Outside of the field and school hours, Ortiz really does like to enjoy her personal life. Having two siblings, one baby brother and one baby sister, she’s always been around them, enjoying their moments together. She also enjoys spending time with her friends, “I like to hang out with my friends, we go to the mall and stuff, I like to hang out with my soccer teammates. We do bonding activities, so we go swimming and stuff,” Ortiz explained.

With Ortiz’s dreams and skills, she is really working to her potential, whether it’s with school, sports, or just wherever she is, she’s trying her hardest and putting her best effort.
