If you’ve heard the punchy strings of an electric guitar around campus, then get ready to put a face to the sound as MECA welcomes JC Romero, a talented guitarist with aspirations to fly sky high—in part through his dreams of starting a band and becoming a future pilot.
Ever since he was young, Romero has always had a fascination with guitars, stemming from his earnest curiosity towards his father’s guitar.
After picking it up for the very first time, Romero recalled how “I had his guitar… and I was just like ‘what is that?’…I was nine years old, so I had no idea what it was.”
Picking up on his interest—his dad played him a song, and from that moment on, he was hooked.
Determined to succeed, he practiced by himself, and although he never got a teacher, JC said, “Through a lot of YouTube, and figuring it out,” he was able to find success in his endeavors, diligently practicing with the instrument for years.
Even as a kid, the guitar had been such a core piece of his childhood.
“I was a little nine-year-old kid with a big ol’ Taylor guitar. So, it’s been the same guitar throughout,” Romero said.
Dedicated to becoming a better musician, JC has collected a multitude of guitars, totaling an equal number of both electric and acoustic guitars.
Naturally, he isn’t letting his talents go to waste.
“I definitely want to be in a band, [but] I have to find people who want to be in a band [with me],” Romero said. “And there’s a few that do, but they don’t want to put in the work”.
And just like his dreams, his future career seems to be high in the sky.
“It’s always been my dream to kind of travel the world. So with the pilot, I get paid to do that,” Romero said.
Still, that’s not all he aspires to achieve.
“[I want]…to be recognized as a fighter in MMA,” JC said.
Having found a similar passion in the sport as with guitar, he noted just how fun it was to compete, simply using his strength to win against others.
Whether it’s through his hobbies or career, JC is intent on making his dreams come true, and he’s willing to put in all of the hard work just to make it happen.
