Nail extensions have been a thing for many decades, but now in this current generation, it has skyrocketed with teens and adults wanting to get them done.

“They make me feel good about myself. It gives me something pretty to look at,” said sophomore Cindy Monjarez.

With endless amounts of shapes, designs, and lengths, the nails you could get are unlimited; they also boost the feeling of confidence in the person, which is why some people tend to get them done.

Most popular shape

The types of nail shapes you could get are unlimited, from round, oval, square, squoval, almond, coffin, stiletto, lipstick, etc.

Monjarez and freshman Connie Molinda both agreed on their favorite shape:  “My favorite nail shape is square and almond,” said Connie Molinda.

The prices

The prices of the nails really depend on what designs, shapes, lengths, and what place you go to. Getting big and extra details on your nails will cause the price to be way higher. The cost can even go to $145 or higher. With little nail length, though, and less design, the cost can be less, with some salons charging $40 for a full set.

The place also really matters because some salons charge per design on the nail or some just add the price of the length and design in one.

“If you go to a nail salon, they’ll charge you extra on the charms,” Molinda said. “You really just have to look at the place you are going to and talk beforehand about the price. For nail techs, it’s a bit different. They usually charge depending on what length you are doing, but if you want to add extra charms or designs, they usually charge extra for it.”

To make sure of the price, though, always ask before the salon or nail tech, show them what you want, length, shape, design, and if you want to add extra stuff, make sure to let them know so you can get the price before.

Pros and Cons of Getting Nail Extensions

The pros and cons of getting your nails done vary from person to person, with each person thinking and having a different pro or con to getting nail extensions.

Pros

  • “Aesthetic and cute, and you like to fidget things around you can” said Molinda.
  • If you are a nail-biter, they prevent that since you can’t bite your nails.
  • They can give you a confidence boost, “I get them done because it makes me feel put together,” Monjarez said.
  • So many different varieties of shapes and designs you could get.

Cons

  • Weakens your natural nail if done repetitively.
  • “Can’t pick up things easily,” said Monjarez.
  • Heavy prices (the highest being $145+)
  • “Your nails can make you type random things,” Molinda said.

With all the different points of view of nail extensions and the people’s opinion is really just what you think about them, one thing that is certain about them, they let people feel more expressive and are really a timeless trend that isn’t going to end anytime soon.
