Lauryn Marin, the vice president of the Book Club, a Girl Scout, and a member of Academic Decathlon is a freshman here at Mt. SAC Academy. She takes pride in herself for her talents and passions, but her number one passion is music.

“I love music, music is my life”, she exclaims.

One of her favorite artists is Taylor Swift, who is also one of her biggest inspirations. She even wrote an article about Taylor Swift’s new album Midnights for The Academy Chronicle.

“A lot of people are obsessed with Taylor Swift so I know I am very not unique in that experience, but I do love me some Taylor Swift” Lauryn admits.

Typically in the class of Johan Cordero MECA’s Spanish teacher, Lauryn sometimes uses her break to either dance and/or listen to Spanish music. Usually dancing along with her is Vazquez, a 9th grader at MECA and Lauryn’s typical dance partner.

“I like it, it’s fun. We have a laugh about it and then we do a couple of turns and then sit down” describes Vazquez. “Because she likes to dance to music it’s fun and it makes the little five minutes of break that we get in Spanish just a little more special.”

Lauryn and Vazquez usually dance along to Mexican artist, Natalia Lafourcade, another one of Lauryn’s favorite artists.

Although Lauryn may not be the biggest fan of dancing in front of people, when she dances to Natalia, she goes inside of her own world, where she doesn’t pay mind to anyone else but her, Natalia, and the dance floor. Or in this case Cordero’s classroom.

“I am a very introverted person and I don’t like to dance in front of people at all, unless it is Natalia Lafourcade, I will make exceptions” Lauryn tells me.

Listening to music isn’t all that Lauryn enjoys, she also loves to play instruments as well as collect records.

“I love to listen to music. I love to play music. I especially enjoy playing the piano, the guitar, the bass, the drums, all of that” she states. “I have a record player at home and I collect records. I love them so much.”

No matter what she is doing, if there is ever a song playing in the background of her class, you can always predict that she will be singing or sometimes even dancing along.
