Today, our team of over 30 creative minds brings you everything from breaking news and trending stories to original podcasts, photo galleries, and our yearbook, The Howler.

As MECA’s voice, we’re committed to bringing you the real scoop on what matters to our community. Whether you’re a student looking for the latest campus updates, a parent wanting to stay connected, or a community member following our school’s journey, TAC Media delivers honest, reliable, and engaging content across all our platforms – from our website and physical newspaper to TimberTV broadcasts.

What will you learn?

Writing

Ever dreamed of seeing your name as a published writer? In journalism, you’ll become a real reporter investigating the stories that matter to your school community! You’ll learn how to craft attention-grabbing headlines, write compelling news stories, and create features that keep readers hooked from start to finish. Want to share your opinion? You can write movie reviews, music critiques, and opinion pieces about school issues that matter to you. Our journalism team will teach you professional interviewing skills – from asking the perfect questions to capturing powerful quotes that bring your stories to life. Plus, everything you write gets published on our website and in our print newspaper, reaching real readers across the MECA community. Whether you’re passionate about writing or just getting started, you’ll gain skills that colleges and future employers love!

Production

Ready to be part of MECA’s multimedia production team? In journalism, you’ll get to create way more than just articles! Jump into the exciting world of video production where you’ll film and edit stories for TimberTV broadcasts. Got a voice for radio? Learn how to create and host your own podcasts covering everything from campus news to student spotlights. You’ll also become a photographer, using professional DSLR cameras to capture breaking news, sports action, and candid moments around campus. Our team will teach you how to shoot like a pro and edit your photos and videos using industry-standard software. Whether you’re interested in being behind the camera, in front of the microphone, or editing the final cut, you’ll gain hands-on experience that today’s social media influencers, photographers, and professional broadcasters use!

 

Research

Want to be the first to uncover the real story? As a student journalist, you’ll become an expert investigator, digging deep to find the facts that matter! You’ll learn how to track down reliable sources, fact-check information like a pro, and piece together clues to create compelling stories. Whether you’re investigating new club activities, upcoming school events, or student achievements, you’ll develop the skills to find answers to questions nobody else is asking. We’ll teach you how to conduct engaging interviews, use research tools like the pros, and turn your discoveries into stories that grab attention. The best part? You’re not just learning how to find information – you’re learning how to share the truth in ways that impact your school community. These detective-like skills will give you an edge in college and any future career!
