Freshman Focus – Ryan Huynh

Categories:

Ryan Huynh is a Mt. SAC Early College Academy (MECA) freshman who plans to work hard on his future here. After starting at Hollencrest Middle School, he came to MECA with his friends in hopes of building a bright future for themselves.

Before coming to MECA, Ryan was hesitant. Originally wanting to go to West Covina High School, he had to choose which school he wanted to attend the most.

“I wanted to have competition with sports, which is why I wanted to go there,” says Huynh. “Eventually, I realized that going here was better as it gave me a better academic chance and had many more opportunities other than sports.”

When Huynh was younger, he moved a lot, going to different places, experiencing new things, and meeting new people.

“I grew up in El Monte, but due to complications, we moved to Texas to try for a better life, “said Huynh.“Unfortunately, Texas was even worse with the weather and guns. I mean, tornadoes and bullets don’t make a good combo, so we finally settled here at West Covina.”

As he grew, he attended Hollencrest Middle School, where he made friends and gained skills. Some of these friends have also come to this school with the same desire as he.

“He’s chill, you know,” said freshman Kyle Cao, one of Huynh’s friends. “He acts nonchalant but is very caring and smart. He’s a team player and always finds solutions to things even when it seems impossible, making him a great leader.”

Huynh has always been interested in many things, but has always wanted to do something related to finances.

“I’ve always liked money and found dealing with it fun and easy. I want to go into something that deals with money, like banking or financial management.”

But finance isn’t his only strength. Every day at lunch, you can find him and his group of friends playing volleyball.

“It’s a game of teamwork and strategy. Whenever we are playing, we try to improve our skills the most while having fun at it,” said Huynh. You will never see us not playing, as even when one of us is injured or sick, we go for the fun of it.”

His plans correspond with what he wants in the future, and he is always trying to grow and add to his mountain of skills that he already possesses.

“I’m trying to always grow, no matter what you know,” he said. “If you slack off, you might miss out on the best of life, which is why I always try to reach beyond my limits. It’s a struggle, but it will have one of the biggest payoffs in the end.”

Ultimately, Huynh is a knowledge-hungry tree that will never stop taking in knowledge and growing. Despite the pressure and weight on his back to grow, he continues to push for a better future, never giving up and finding ways to improve.
