Welcome, Amelia Macias to MECA!

Give a warm welcome to our new Office Secretary, Amelia Macias!

Macias is super excited to be joining MECA.

The leadership role is nothing new to her. She previously worked as the morning director at Chick-fil-A.

“I was in charge of the front part, whoever is taking the orders and writing the food. Pretty much as a director, you’re in charge of the store when you’re on shift,” she reminisced.

Prior to this, she worked in a financial company where she distributed personal loans and ran customers’ credit.

Macias grew up in Mexico, where she gained experience working in the hotel industry.

“I started in Mexico, tourism and hospitality. So majority of the time I was reception … a lot of customer service,” she explains.

At 16 years old, she and her family moved to the United States. With this new environment, her parents struggled to communicate at Macias’ school, as there were no Spanish-speaking office employees. This ignited a passion within her to make it easier for other students whom she could relate to.

“That stuck in my mind, and I wanted to create a different environment for someone. I like helping people, and I have always been interested in an office position,” Macias shares.

She has a three-and-a-half-year-old son, which is another reason she feels this new job is perfect.

“The school, I think, gives you a perfect balance, so that I can spend some time with my son while I’m still working, providing for him,” she explains.

Macias prides herself on continuing to push herself out of her comfort zone. She feels this is the perfect place to do that.

“I like to keep growing, and I feel that in here, you will never get bored because there’s always something I need to do,” she states.

Security Guard Alex Palacios has noticed her work ethic and how comfortably she has adjusted.

“She’s on top of everything. Even just coming into a brand new position, … she’s really on it,” he says.

Similarly, Media Center Clerk, Robert Sanchez, is hopeful for her future here at MECA.

“I feel like she’s a good personality match for our school. Once she finds her feet and gets used to this crazy, hectic job that she’s fallen into, I think she’s got a lot of potential to be a good family member,” he elaborates.

Eventually, Macias will control Principal Ryan McDonnell’s agenda. Currently, she is in charge of reviewing purchases, ensuring all invoices are paid, and that teachers are present in their classrooms, or requesting a substitute if necessary.

She describes her experience as “Challenging, and I like challenges.”

“My goal is just to keep growing in the school district. Once I learn something and I’m an expert on it, I’m like, what’s next?” she explains.

So far, she is doing a great job of pushing herself towards her important goal of taking care of her son.

Best wishes to Amelia Macias and her bright MECA future.

Take a moment to say hi and welcome whenever you are walking through the office!
