Miguel Orozco, a freshman at Mt. SAC Early College Academy (MECA), is eager to make the most of his high school journey. Coming from St. Martha Catholic School, Miguel has been excited about the opportunities MECA provides, from unique school work to the chance to explore new activities. With a positive attitude and determination, Miguel is prepared to make lasting memories while navigating his exciting first year in high school.
Orozco first learned about MECA through a flyer and from his close friend Marvin Lopez, also a freshman here at MECA, who has siblings here.
“Marvin was always talking about MECA and the great things here, so I decided to check it out,” said Orozco. “I liked how it had a similar charm to my old school, which was really small and tight-knit.”

A passionate soccer player, Miguel is no stranger to teamwork. Having been part of the school’s soccer team, he enjoyed playing with friends and teammates.
“It was really fun playing on the team, and I hope to join again next year,” he said.
Outside of sports, Orozco also spends his time playing video games like FIFA and Minecraft, but he also enjoys cooking.
“I really like to cook stuff like salmon, a lot of seafood. I really like seafood, and also just easy stuff like grilled cheese, quesadillas, stuff like that” said Orozco.
When it comes to his future, Orozco has big dreams. Inspired by his family’s background in engineering, Miguel wants to become a civil engineer.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was little,” he said. “Designing infrastructure and working as an engineer really excites me, and I’m looking forward to making that happen.”
Orozco’s teachers and friends alike have noticed his leadership qualities and strong character. Johan Cordero, Spanish 1 and 2 teacher, described him as “bright” and talked about his fluency in Spanish, as well as his willingness to help others in class.

“Miguel is very helpful with his classmates, always taking the time to explain things to those who need help,” Cordero said. “I can see him becoming a great leader in the future.”
Orozco is born to be a great leader and friend to people around him. “He’s a good leader and always has your back,” stated his longtime friend Nicholas de Ocera, also a freshman at MECA. “He’s the kind of person you can count on, whether you’re playing soccer or need advice.”
As for his goals during his time at MECA, Orozco is focused on earning his Associate’s degree through the Cal GETC program, a goal that will help him further his career aspirations in engineering.
“I want to make the most out of my time here, so I’m looking forward to taking college classes and earning those credits,” Orozco exclaimed.
Multiple people share similar sentiments about Orozco, stating his natural ability to connect with others. Ivan Chavez, freshman here at MECA, added that Miguel “shows [him] what it’s like to be a good and loyal friend.”

He is also committed to making a positive impact on those around him. “He’s like an older brother to me,” said Nicholas. “He always helps me out, and he’s a true friend.”
With his future ahead, Orozco is poised to make a lasting impact at MECA. His positive energy, hard working attitude, and sense of community will continue to make his high school experience the best, helping him grow both academically and personally. Whether in the classroom, on the soccer field, or in his daily interactions, Orozco is ready to tackle high school and build the foundation for a successful future.
