Let Your Voices Be Heard: ASB 2025-2026 Election

Categories:

Election season has kicked off here at MECA! The campus is radiating with excitement as candidates are campaigning through March  26th, with elections taking place on March 27th.

Candidates have been seen around campus handing out flyers, and candy, and having students take pictures with photo frames.

Currently, ASB is in the hands of senior Kristabella Rodriguez, who is their president. Junior Lauryn Marin, will take the reins as next year’s ASB president, as she is the only one running for the position. As vice president, it has been her responsibility to run the election for the 2025-2026 school year. So far, Marin says it has been a “very busy campaign.”

Even though she had no competition for her position as next year’s president, other elected positions do have people running against each other.

“People are being very respectful and I’m excited to see what each candidate has in store,” Marin shares.

Marin has gotten to work hand-in-hand with Rodriguez which leaves her prepared for everything next year has in store.

“She’s really helped me prepare to advance to her role, and also taught me what she wishes she had done differently, whether good or bad,” Marin recounts. “I can look at her and see what I should be aspiring to be.”

Marin is confident in her ability to succeed next year as ASB President.

“I feel like I’m very qualified for the position and it’s not a difficult decision for the school to make. I’m prepared, I’m ready, and I’m excited to have that position next year,” she declares.

ASB advisor, Gabriel Nichols wishes that there was more interest in elected positions for the 2025-2026 school year, to increase the competitive spirit.

“It’s always fun when every position has at least two candidates so that way the candidates really sell themselves and then students really get to make the choice they want to,” he states.

Nichols feels ASB is crucial to build school culture. He understands that school can become mundane, which is why ASB works hard to break up that monotony with the events they plan.

“This is a part of your life, you’re spending eight hours of your existence every day here. While you’re here, it sure would be swell if you guys wanted to be here and enjoyed being here. A lot of that is gonna come through ASB, Link Crew, and even the sports programs,” he expands.

Similarly, Marin states, “ASB is a voice for the students. We get to provide fun events that are separate from academics and really create a positive school culture.”

Not only do these benefits come from ASB, but it helps to “make connections with people outside of your grade level, and you get comfortable with them, over the school years, so then, like, for spirit weeks, dances, or house competitions, you feel a little more comfortable being spirited,” Rodriguez shares.

Nichols hopes to bring high spirits for election day on March 27th. Students can make their own choices for their future MECA leaders.

“We’ll have a big fun election,” Nichols exclaims.

Current President Rodriguez trusts that she is leaving ASB with people who will keep the momentum going next year, including their advisor.

“No matter who wins, ASB will be in good hands, especially with Mr. Nichol’s, I feel like he’s gotten a lot more experience and an understanding of how ASB works,” she confidently states.

Make sure to cast your votes on March 27th, and continue to respectfully listen to everyone’s campaigns.

“Good luck, electees,” Rodriguez wishes.
