The Los Angeles Dodgers are off to the World Series! With a thrilling Game 6 victory against the New York Mets, the Dodgers have punched their ticket to face the New York Yankees in an exciting showdown for the World Series Championship.

The Dodgers’ journey to the World Series has been a suspenseful ride through the postseason, packed with intense matchups and exciting victories.

Their first challenge was the Divisional Series against the San Diego Padres on October 5, 2024. A fierce five-game battle that showcased both teams’ hard work and dedication. The series stretched to game five, where the Dodgers ultimately won. They won three games out of the five, making their way to the next round and gaining their spot in the National League Championship Series.

Next came the Championship Series, on October 15, 2024, where the Dodgers faced off against the New York Mets in a best of seven games. This series was as dramatic as before, with the Dodgers claiming victory in game six to win the series, four games to two. An exciting moment for Fielder Tommy Edman as he was chosen as the team’s standout player, earning the NLCS MVP for his outstanding performance and game-changing plays that helped the rest of the team with this victory.

Now, the Dodgers are preparing to meet the New York Yankees in the World Series,  a coast-to-coast rivalry that’s sure to hype up baseball fans everywhere. The first game will take place on October 25, 2024, with the stakes at their highest. The Dodgers will need four more wins out of seven games to claim and bring back the ultimate title of World Series Champions back to Los Angeles.

When asked how they felt about the Dodgers advancing to the World Series, MECA students and teachers alike agreed that their accomplishment was nothing they didn’t earn. As PE teacher Matt Johnson agrees, “I’m glad the Dodgers are in the World Series… it’s special because of what [could happen].”

Ever since 2020, the Dodgers have had yet to catch a break, falling short on the qualifications for the World Series, until now. However, students remained steady with their hopes for the team. Senior Samuel Amador shares, “I feel really proud because I love LA and I’m really passionate about our team.”

Regardless of how small MECA may be, the pride that students and staff share for LA’s very own team is far greater than you could imagine, pushing them through each loss and every win the Dodgers have experienced. Whether a super fan or a part-time enjoyer, many can agree that there still stands a part of themselves that truly enjoys the game.

With both the good and the bad plays the Dodgers have made, those who have seen them can agree that although the team is good, they still have room to improve. Rubi Luna-Osorio, a senior, comments,“ I feel like they can improve on the pitching… but other than that, the grand slams have been very cool.”

Despite this, Wellness Center supervisor Jasmine DeHaro has full faith in the team, noting how, “they have a really, really powerful hitting team… which I think is going to get us the win.”

Having seen the last few games, MECA Dodger fans have stayed loyal to their team, rooting for the Dodgers through each strike and every run. Office staff Emily Hijar agrees, stating, “I think they’re gonna be one of the best teams to go down in history.”

Do you think the Dodgers will win the World Series?
