William Liu is a freshman at Mt. SAC Early College Academy (MECA) and aspires to become a Doctor. Coming to MECA from Hollencrest Middle School, he is excited to take the Anatomy and other college classes provided to help him achieve his goal.

Both of William’s parents are Doctors, and his dad immigrated from China. As he explains, “He was really, really smart. He could have worked at probably the top five medical schools in all of China, if he stayed, but he came to America because apparently, kids got a better education.”

William shares that top choices for medical school would be John Hopkins, UCLA, and even Mt. SAC College, all with really great medical departments. Being a dual enrollment student will especially help him get the credits he needs to cut back on the lengthy medical school years, especially if he gets his associate degree for transfer. William also explains that as he is completing the requirements to become a Doctor, he wants to temporarily be an Assistant Doctor.

“[I’ll] probably [work as] an Assistant Doctor [before] trying to become a full-fledged one,” William explains. “After med school, you still have to do a bunch of things [before becoming a Doctor].”

Becoming a Doctor takes a lot of work. You have to go to medical school and make sure to get top grades, as well as follow up with the latest technologies and medicines in the field. It comes with a lot of struggles, but William hopes to persevere.

Although William doesn’t know exactly what medical discipline he still pushes himself academically. At the same time, he is also being pushed by his parents, “They’re very supportive of me and they push me to my limits because they know I can go higher, but I’m lazy, so sometimes they’ll get mad.”
