Patricia Galvan is an outgoing freshman here at Mt. SAC Early College Academy (MECA). She first heard of our school through her mother, she says, “My mom recommended it to me in seventh grade, I think my mom always knew I was going to go here [be]cause of the good opportunities.”

Patricia is trying to take advantage of these opportunities by taking as many college classes as possible after this year. She also decided to join some of the clubs here, with “I’m in the Music Club, Novelist Club, and Key Club.”

The Music Club is held on Thursdays with senior president Bryan Rosales and advisor Mr. Barriga. Where you can bring your own instrument and practice or even play for the school. The Novelist Club is held on Wednesdays with sophomore president Autumn Pagan and advisor Ms. Bell the members of this club are working on writing a novel. The Key Club is held on Fridays, with senior president Arielle Fabros and advisor Mr. Cordero. They allow students to volunteer and gain experience to put on their college applications.

Loving this school and all the classes and teachers here, she shares, “My favorite class is math but my favorite teacher is either Ms. Bell or Ms. Torres. I like how Ms. Torres is a pretty chill teacher and can understand [assignments can be late] but also gives you that expectation that you need to turn it in on time. I like Ms. Bell because of her upbeat attitude. She’s [a] cool teacher.”

In her free time Patricia also loves to play video games and go on social media, her favorite video game is The Last of Us. Patricia also really enjoys music and plays the flute, which she has been playing since 4th grade. While learning the flute Patricia said, “[At first] it felt like a chore but eventually once I got the hang of it I started to like it”.

Patricia was also in choir, where she was a soprano; the highest singing voice of women or boys. She had a solo for “I was him in love” and some other songs she learned were “ A Million Dreams” from the Greatest Showman, “ Can’t Help Falling In Love”,“ Won’t Say I’m In Love”, and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.

Patricia was also excited about the house competition which was ultimate frisbee. She had only been to one house competition prior and had high hopes for her house, Delta, to win. Due to our high school being “unique” she found it cool that it offers house competitions for everyone to enjoy and show spirit for their house.

Patricia is pleased to meet new people and get to know the students here, having said that “ Something I love most about this school is definitely the students because they are nicer’’. She is delighted to continue her high school years here at MECA and is ready to enroll in college classes!
