Wednesday Breaks The Internet
From the whimsical mind of Tim Burton comes the new reimagined series Wednesday, a character from Charles Addams’ classic creation The Addams Family. Burton readdapts this fictional world and gives us a new perspective and story through the lens of the oldest daughter of the Addams Family. Starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, the show is already breaking charts within the first week of showing.
This new Netflix Original is already topping Stranger Things 4 with more than 341 million hours watched according to The Economic Times, it is in the top ten in 93 countries since being aired Wednesday, November 23 with eight episodes available to stream.
“I think that Wednesday is an amazing show with a great plot,” says 13 year old Dafne Duran. “The show was so mysterious and there were things that happened only around the characters.”
The show follows Wednesday Addams as she “investigates a murder spree while making new friends —and foes— at Nevermore Academy [an institution for outcasts, beasts, and creatures]” as stated on the description on Netflix. It includes friendships, horror, humor and a splash of romance as we see another side to the normally cold and slightly unhinged character.
Casted with Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addam, and special appearance of Christina Ricci who portrayed the original Wednesday Addams from the 1991 hit film, The Addams Family.
The Addams Family was originally created by Charles Addams an American cartoonist who designed and created The Addams Family which was originally a cartoon (1938), then a 2 season sitcom (1964), before they released the classic hit film in 1991.
Taken on by Tim Burton now in 2022, who is known for movies and classics such as, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Willy Wonka in the Chocolate factory (2005) and more.
With Jenna Ortega’s taking over the internet with her self-choreographed dance known as the “Wednesday Dance” which has stormed the internet with edits and dance tutorials. With songs such as Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga and Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps resurfacing and breaking the charts.
“Something I would show someone to get them to watch it would be the iconic dance scene because I feel that was a very wholesome moment in the show,” says Duran.
As well as reviving the 90s goth fashion trends with her outfits throughout the show, making quite an incredible impression with the prom dress from Alia which she wore during the dance in episode four.
With the release of season 1, two months later Netflix has announced the renewal for season two, as Netflix has stated on their official instagram page, “Your favorite pig-tailed goth girl will return to Netflix. Wednesday season two is coming!” No further details have been given about what season two would entail or release.
