Sofia is excited for the new environment, along with the college classes as she sets out to be a psychologist.

She explains “I want to do my associates in Psychology. When I graduate high school I want to do it here at MECA. So I want to be a psychologist when I’m older.”

Wanting to become a psychologist and with her love of books she tells me.

“I have read books about mental health, mainly topics relating to eating disorders” she goes on to explain that she wants to help kids and adolescents that struggle with this sort of thing.

After school or any chance she gets, she loves to read all types of books from children books for fun, to chapter books and online comics.

“I like reading, a lot… I think I’m on my 15th book this year.” She says “I just finished a book and it’s now my new favorite, it’s called I fell in love with hope… I cried at least four times throughout [and] I finished in three days”

Sofia takes comfort in her books and after a long day she reads a good book.

“We were Liars is my comfort book,” she tells me, “Even though I know what happens at the end. I know all the plot twists. I have literally memorized so much of the book … it makes me happy.”

Thinking back to her childhood she remembers one book in particular.

She reminisces “ How I read a book [that] was Harry the Homeless Puppy” she just remembers reading a lot when she was little.

Sofia has loved books all throughout her life as she is still reading everyday.

“I’m [currently] reading the darkest minds” she says.sh

Sofia is a happy soul who finds comfort in reading, her reading will never stop. She is excited for the year ahead and the books that come with it.
