The Rise Of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
One of Mediatonic’s games named Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is blowing up in popularity ever since it was released on August 4th, 2020; it’s estimated that it has 16 million players on PS4.
Mediatonic didn’t know that it would blow up and become a hit game. They even had some server problems when it became popular. The game has been showing up everywhere on the internet through memes, streaming, and more. Fall Guys is a 60-player game where you play as a bean-like character, complete minigames, and hope to be the last one standing. It can be played with all ages, but it does contain mild cartoon violence.
Fall Guys has been wildly successful and a very good way to pass the time with friends and family this quarantine. However, it has its flaws. Matthew Tseng states,” I’m honestly hoping to see more game modes and other side content, for example, maybe a sandbox.” Since the game is a minigame type game it needs to have more minigames to keep replay ability.
There are currently 25 unique minigames you can play and some of them include Slime Climb, DoorDash, and See Saw. One of the most popular ones is Fall Mountain, where competitors race to a crown that’s at the top of a hill. It has lots of obstacles and it is the first to touch the crown to win the game. As colors pass left and right, you can see the game is very hectic and super fun to play. The cartoony art style combined with the amazing soundtrack made by Jukio Kallio and Daniel Hagström makes the game even more fun and have a cartoon feel. When you win, you can get things called kudos and crowns that you can use to buy cosmetic items for your bean character. This way it gives you more reason to play the game and keep you engaged in playing the game.
The game has been played by many streamers and YouTubers such as Pewdiepie, one of the most subscribed YouTubers right now, and more. Matthew Tseng also states, ”Fall Guys is honestly a fun, but overrated game. There was no way it could have become popular without the influence of streamers.” Fall Guys had a crossover with Valve who is a video game developer, publisher, and digital distribution company. They included Portal, Half Life, and Team Fortress 2 cosmetics in the game. It was published by Devolver Digital on PS4 and Windows PC, via Steam, and costs $19.99 .
As of now, Fall Guys is one of two games that have bean-like character games to blow up. The other being Among Us, a mystery game where you need to use lies and deceit to win. Will another bean-like character rise up and become a hit new game? Time will only tell.
