An ending of an era as the final Conjuring movie, The Conjuring: Last Rites, was released in theaters on September 5, 2025. Horror movie fans were ecstatic to finally see the last movie of the Conjuring franchise.
The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is based on a true story, takes place in 1986 as Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are known for being paranormal investigators, are drawn out of retirement to investigate one last haunting. In Pennsylvania, the Smurl family has been experiencing haunting from a demon who has been causing demonic activity to occur.
“I thought it was a really good representation of their life and their love, aside from the whole cinematics of the devil in the Conjuring. I enjoyed the cinematography of it.. Some of it was kind of weird, but I thought it was great. I like their love story,” said Lucille Lopez, a senior at Mt. SAC Early College Academy. Lopez took an interest in Ed and Lorraine Warren’s love story rather than the horror of the movie.
“It’s a horror story, but I’d like to see behind it, like how [the main characters] started from a love story and how they came together to start doing [what they do], so I see it more for the love,” said Lopez. Some would agree with her, as, despite it being a horror movie, there is a present romantic plot throughout the movie
Others loved the movie for the horror parts and enjoyed being scared. “I think the jump scares were my favorite part. I thought they did a really good job with the jump scares,” said math teacher Michael Reyes.
Fans, though, were split in half on whether the ending of the movie The Conjuring: Last Rites was good or not. Many thought that it was a bad ending and should’ve ended differently, while others believed it was the perfect ending to the movie.
“At first I didn’t like the ending, but then the very end reminded me that this is a true story so it’s not gonna end up like the way we would imagine it, so I just had to be okay with it,” said Reyes.
It has jump scares, it has romance, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, so if you’re a horror movie fan, grab your popcorn and watch The Conjuring: Last Rites in theaters near you.
